After the success of Sunny Con – Sunderland’s first Anime convention at Crowntree leisure centre – a new anime / alternative night out is coming to Sunderland on Saturday night.

 

Materia Junkies is Sunderlands first ever ‘nerd club night’ at Venue. What is a nerd night out ? Well it will consist of live music from local bands, anime, video games – on big the big screens, costume role play and nerdy DJ’s….

 

This coming saturday will be the launch of the club night and confirmed to play live are; B-Type the organiser of the night and Sunderland’s own rapper, Masamune a rock outfit who will be collaborating with B-Type for a super surprise song mash up,  Steve Cooke from Stockton and CyberByte a beat boxer from Sunderland.

Stephen Brunton also known as B-Type explains,

“After playing nerd club nights in Manchester and anime conventions in London I always thought it would be great to bring this kind of club night to Sunderland.

“After witnessing the success of the recent SunnyCon event in Sunderland I realised that there is actually a niche market in Sunderland who actually would enjoy the kind of thing I’ve experienced down Manchester and London.”

 

So the new club night launches this saturday May 5. Doors are at 7pm and entry is a mere £3 and if you come along in fancy dress you will get in for £2. After this saturday Materia Junkies will return the first Saturday of every month.
